Lubin town, located in Lower Silesia, is mainly associated with the KGHM copper mine and the football club Zagłębie Lubin. And mostly it just becomes Lublin…
Few people know that, since 2014, it can boast a really interesting and free park with many birds, mini zoo and dinosaur figures. The place is constantly being developed and upgraded, so we try to keep our entry updated. The park used to be called Park Wroclawski and by this name virtually every Lubin resident knows it, but since 2023 it has been renamed to ZOO Lubin.
It is worth remembering that the park has restrictions such as: no entry with animals, no entry with bicycles or on scooters. All this is dictated by the safety of the residents of the Lubin Zoo as well as tourists visiting the park.

The Lubin Zoo covers an area of over 14 hectares. The animals living on its grounds come from the Wrocław Zoo, which supervises the breeding. A number of tables with the layout of the attractions, as well as brochures handed out at the entrances including maps of the attractions, are helpful in visiting. Admission is free of charge, so it is worth taking advantage of such a great initiative of the city and taking a trip to Lubin. The park is divided into 4 parts: a bird area, a Dinosaur Trail, a mini zoo with farm animals and playgrounds. It is worth spending at least 2 hours to visit the whole park to see all its main attractions, although if you are there with your children, they can even spend a whole day having fun. We also recommend planning a visit to the second free park located about 10 minutes from the Lubin Zoo, which is the Forest Park in Lubin.

Birdhouse - something for bird lovers and ornithologists
Although Lubin Zoo is most associated with large dinosaur figures, the birdhouse is a very important part of the Lubin Zoo. It is therefore worth starting your visit with the bird house. The whole collection is very extensive and you can see a lot of species there, including the more exotic ones. Some of them live in fenced and spacious cages, while some can be observed in their natural enclave, which is the area of the Lubin Zoo Park.
The area is mostly a remnant of a riparian forest and is located in the Zimnica valley, which has flooded quite often, creating a unique natural environment. However, the biggest surprise among tourists are the free-walking peacocks, which carelessly and slowly walk around the entire area of the park. Unfortunately, many tourists cannot respect their freedom, so we ask on behalf of the peacocks and the park staff not to chase the peacocks and to observe them from a distance.

Route of Extinct Animals - a Dinosaur Park in Lubin that will delight not only children!
Immediately behind bird’s area is the Dinosaur Park (a lot of people name Lubin zoo as Dinosaur Park). The figures correspond to their natural size, so that the largest of them, the Brachiozaurus, measures 33 metres. This is not only a great attraction for the little ones, but also for their parents. The dinosaur stand is a great educational centre, as the richly-described boards will give an insight into the history of each of these large reptiles. It is worth mentioning that it is forbidden to climb the dinosaurs. Unfortunately, this rule is often broken, so that the sculptures are being damaged and have to be repaired.
An interesting idea was to create dinosaur figures in unique poses that depicted their daily activities or behaviour. Occasionally, when turning into the next alley, the outstretched head of a dinosaur will appear behind the trees watching us as if we were intruders. This creates a really interesting effect!
The Tyrannosaurus needs no introduction! No wonder he could not be missing in the Dinosaur Park. This most dangerous dinosaur loves to be photographed, so a photo with Mr T-Rex is a must.

Sensory trail in Lubin Zoo - something that feet like best
It is worth mentioning that the Zoo Park has an attraction to offer since 13.08.2022 that we really appreciate. We mean the sensory path, which is a great way to naturally massage the feet and a way to support a child’s motor skills. Increasingly, children experience isolation from the outside world and their feet are practically constantly in shoes. This interferes significantly with the sensory qualities of the feet – we encourage you to read up on the subject on specialist child development and sensory pages.
We will already tell you that we will probably be crossing this path with a slow step quite often.

Mini zoo in Lubin - rabbits, goats, alpacas and more!
Between the dinosaur section and the mini zoo there is a pond where you can see swans. They can often be found strolling around the area with their young. It is worth remembering that this beautiful bird can attack, so it is advisable to keep an eye on children.
Also unsurprising are the ducks, which love to spend their time either in the nearby Zimnica River or the pond in the park.
By the pond, there is also an extensive rest area where you can relax in charming gazebos surrounded by flowers. This is an ideal place to hide from the sun on a hot day.

DO NOT FEED THE ANIMALS!
The animals that are kept in mini zoo in Lubin are tamed and happy to pose for photos. Most of them walk freely in their enclosures and can be stroked. Unfortunately, people still feed these animals with food they bring from home, from healthier food such as carrots and other vegetables to crisps and sticks. This is a problem because the animals get used to receiving food from visitors and begin to demand it, and make demands by poking people or biting them. Aggressive individuals are sent back to the Wrocław Zoo for ‘resocialisation’. Additionally, some species have a specialised diet and such treats can simply harm them.
We hope that people visiting the park will quickly learn to stop this type of behaviour, as we can assure you that the animals here certainly do not starve.
Of big interest to children is the goat enclosure, where you can enter and pet the goats. The rest of animals are fenced off and can be admired from a distance or up close if they feel like a little petting. In addition to such animals that children may encounter in polish countryside as goats, sheep, rabbits, a cow, chickens, guinea fowl, turkeys, a donkey or a pony, alpacas get a lot of attention. These funny animals with luxuriant hair bring a smile to every visitor

European bison in Lubin Zoo - the latest attraction in this park
Since January 2024, two young eurpean bison – Poblysk and Pobrzęk (born 2021) from Gdańsk Zoological Garden – can be seen in Lubin Zoo. Their large enclosure has been located at the end of Lubin Zoo right next to the dinosaurs. So far, bison are getting used to their new home and are undoubtedly generating a lot of interest among visitors.
An interesting fact about the bison are their names, which are not given accidentally. Breeding bison are given names based on their breeding (similar to pedigrees), from which the first two or three letters of the name are taken. In Poland, bison breedings give names:
PL – bison breeding in Pszczyna, where both parents have names beginning with the letters PL.
PO – from other breeding farms in Poland. Interestingly, we have a series of children’s books where the main role is played by bison from the Białowieża Forest and they are called Polinka, Pomruk, Porada and Pompik. Now we know that their names are not given by accident.
KA – these are bison that were caught from a herd living in the wild, but usually had to be included in breeding for medical reasons.
PU – this is how names start with individuals from the lowland-Caucasian line.

Children's playground and cafe where you can recharge your batteries
The last part of dinosaur park in Lubin, (ZOO Lubin), that we want to show you is playground with numerous attractions for children in the form of castles, ladders, swings and other objects that will let your kids have fun.
Visually, it can be divided into two zones depending on the age of the child. Attractions for younger children 2~5 years old are located at the side exit near the parking, while the zone for older ones is located closer to mini zoo.
Also worth mentioning is the sandpit, which is an archaeological site. Little explorers digging in the sand may come across dinosaur remains in the form of jaws, bones, tails, etc., but we only managed to find one dinosaur remains. We only managed to find one remains, so we encourage little adventurers to search fiercely for the rest.
